Dundee: Elizabeth A. ''Betsy'' Lauer, age 82, most recently of Penn Yan, previously of Rock Stream, formerly of Dundee, NY; passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday January 5, 2018 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, in Penn Yan, NY.

Calling hours will be from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Thursday (Jan. 11) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am Friday (Jan. 12) at St. Mary's of the Lake Parish, 905 N. Decatur St., Watkins Glen, N.Y. with Father Steven Lape officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Reading, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dundee Fire Company Emergency Squad, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837.

Born Elizabeth Ann Zowasky on September 5, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio; one of three daughters of Carl and Frances {Dombroski} Zowasky. 'Betsy' graduated from Shaw High School, in East Cleveland, Ohio, Class of 1953; and attended Ohio University. On April 23, 1960 at Christ the King Church in East Cleveland, Ohio she married Earl James Lauer. Living in Mentor Ohio, she worked for Cowles Chemical in Cleveland.

Moving to Dundee in 1972, 'Betsy' worked for many years as a secretary at Continental Telephone Company; and she also worked for Retired Supreme Court Judge Lyman Smith until her retirement.

A devoted former member of St Andrews Catholic Church in Dundee, she was a current member of St Mary's of the Lake Parish, and involved in the Shawl Ministry. She was a longtime Volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Drives, and served on the Yates County Election Board. She enjoyed bowling sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She was a very devoted Cleveland Indians fan. She also loved and enjoyed spending time with the family pets.

She is loved and will be missed by her husband of 57 years Earl J. Lauer of Penn Yan; a son Robert E. Lauer of Las Vegas, NV; 2 daughters Ann M. (Thomas) Nolan with whom she made her home, Margaret 'Peggy' Lauer of Montour Falls, NY; a granddaughter Katie (Ryan) Marko of Manchester, NY; a great granddaughter Mirabelle Marko; a sister Mary Jane Poley of Chesterland, OH; 2 sister in laws June Zowasky of Mentor on the Lake, OH, Joan Lauer of University Heights, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her brother Carl Zowasky, and sister Ruth Hassing.
