Obituary of Newell R. Clancey

Newell R. Clancey Dundee: Newell R. Clancey, age 89, of Dundee, NY passed away on Sunday July 13, 2025 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Honoring his wishes, there will be no prior calling hours, or public service. A private remembrance service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Dundee Fire Company, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837. Newell was born Nov. 22, 1935 in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late John and Elsie Jane (McCrea) Clancey. Having lived in Dundee since the 7th grade, formerly of Clarence, NY; he graduated from Dundee Central School a member of the class of 1955. In August that same year, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy; proudly serving four years, honorably discharged in 1959. On Dec. 2, 1956 in the Dundee Baptist Church he married the former Joanne Marie Giles. As a new member of the Giles family, he accepted a position as the head butcher in the family business, Giles Shur Fine, in Dundee, retiring in 1998. Mr. Clancey was a Life Member and Past Chief of the Dundee Fire Company, and Emergency Squad retired. He was also a member of the Dundee Masonic Lodge 123 F&AM, and American Legion Bradley-Jessop Post #660. In his spare time, he excelled in photography, tried to master golf, and loved mowing grass, especially on the hill, at the family camp, where he never missed a hunting season. He will be forever missed by his wife of 68 years, Joanne M. Clancey at home; a son Douglas N. (M.J.) Clancey of Dundee; a daughter Trudy (T.J.) Richards of Akron, NY; daughter in law Maureen wife of son Tim Clancey of Webster, NY; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by a son Timothy O'Brian Clancey in 2021; and brothers John (Jack), Lewis, and Edward Clancey; and a sister Ann E. Kellogg.
