Obituary of Carolyn L. Schmidl

Carolyn L. Schmidl Penn Yan/Stanley: Carolyn L. Schmidl, age 83, of Penn Yan previously of Stanley, originally of Dundee, NY passed away Tuesday October 28, 2025 at F. F. Thompson Memorial Hospital, in Canandaigua, N.Y. Honoring her wishes there will be no calling hours or public service. Inurnment will be private in the Rapalee section of Hillside Cemetery, in Dundee, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Penn Yan Moose Lodge 301 East Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527. Carolyn was born December 30, 1941 in Dundee, NY, the daughter of the late Leland Weldon Rapalee and Elizabeth Anita Lane Rapalee. She graduated from Dundee Central School in the class of 1959. On January 3, 1960 in the Dundee Methodist Church she married Gerald Robert Schmidl. Carolyn was a secretary for many years retiring from Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES, in Flint, N.Y. in 2006. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years "Gerry" Schmidl at home in Penn Yan; 4 sons Richard A. "Dick" (Karma) Schmidl of Branchport, Robert M. (Ann) Schmidl of Montezuma, NY, Kevin M. (Charity) Schmidl of Canandaigua, and Terry Lee (Kira) Schmidl of Colorado; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Suzanne Starkey of Waterloo, and Linda (Donald) Libertore of Geneva; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by a brother Leland Weldon Rapalee Jr. in 2007, and a grandson Bradley Alan Schmidl in 2008.
