Obituary of Marjorie R. Lawrence

Marjorie R. Lawrence A Life of Service to Others Marjorie Rappold Lawrence, 88, of Ithaca since 2012, formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away peacefully on April 30, 2016 in Ithaca, NY. She was born October 10, 1927 in Albany, NY to the late Herman P. and Edith Irene Mesick (Brown) Rappold. Marjorie grew up in Castleton-on-Hudson, before attending Wheelock College. She taught Kindergarten for three years in Norwood, Massachusetts. She also was a Camp Counselor at Camp Mudjekeewis in Lowell, ME. On Aug. 2, 1952 in Albany, NY she married William Wallace Lawrence Jr. of Plainfield NJ. They settled in the town of Poughkeepsie and built the home they lived in for 60 years from the foundation up. Mr. Lawrence passed away on November 21, 2004. Mrs. Lawrence was an active volunteer member in the Poughkeepsie community and served in the Baptist Home Coffee Shop in Hyde Park for 30 years, and volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. She was a lifelong active member of New Hackensack Reformed Church in Wappingers Falls; Church Women United; and attended the Hopewell Reformed Church in Hopewell and the Danby Federated Church near Ithaca as well. Marge is survived by her three sons, David William Lawrence of Trumansburg, NY, James Scott Lawrence of Spencer, NY, and Thomas William Lawrence of Highlands Ranch, CO; 3 grandchildren Katrina Lee Lawrence, Scott James Lawrence, and Michelle Rene Becker, and 2 great-grandchildren Daimon Zeke Allen and Traviz Allen. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am Saturday July 16, 2016 at the New Hackensack Dutch Reformed Church, 1580 Rte. 376, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590, where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, with Rev. Keith Tamlyn officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. Inurnment will be private in the Old New Hackensack Dutch Church Cemetery.Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County, 45 Catharine Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
