Helen D. Baxter Tyrone: Helen D. Baxter, age 86, of Tyrone, NY died Thursday August 29, 2013 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, in Penn Yan, NY. Honoring her wishes there are no calling hours, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday Nov. 10th at the Weston Presbyterian Church, County Route 23 Weston, NY with Rev. Richard Schied officiating. Inurnment will be in Baxter Cemetery, Addison, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Tyrone Volunteer Ambulance Corp., P.O. Box 69, Tyrone, NY 14887; or the Weston Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 510 County Rte 23, Dundee, NY 14837. Helen was born December 9, 1926 in Lapeer, Cortland County, NY, the daughter of the late George H. and Carrie D. Parker Dunn. She graduated from Romulus High School in 1945. On July 27, 1946 in Hall, NY she married the late Sidney G. Baxter; he passed away on Sept. 19, 1973. Helen continued her education attending Albany State Teachers College for three years before starting her family. A Nurse's Aid at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in the 40's and 50's, she had worked at Krebbs Grocery in Weston for 15 years before becoming the Town of Tyrone Clerk for 24 years, retiring in 2010. Mrs. Baxter was a very active member of the former Tyrone Chapter # 612 Order of the Eastern Star; having been the Grand Representative of Tennessee in New York, prior to becoming a member of the Fern Chapter #141 O.E.S. in Montour Falls. She was also very active, holding many offices in the Tyrone Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary; the Weston Presbyterian Church, and will be remembered as the writer of the Tyrone "Neighborhood News" section in the Dundee Observer for many years. She is survived by 2 daughters Marla L. (Charlie Lord) Baxter of Santa Maria, CA, Nancy L. Baxter of North Port, FL; 2 sons Danny J. Baxter also of North Port, FL, and Harry S. (Ann Lowery) Baxter of Hammondsport; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; several step grand and great grandchildren; and her very dear best friend Naomi DeCamp. Besides her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by a brother Wayland Dunn. The Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, is honored to have been entrusted with the arrangements.
