Julia D. Hilligus Dundee: Julia D. Hilligus, age 85, of Dundee, NY, passed away on Monday September 2, 2013 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m.- 12:00 noon Thursday (Sept. 5) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee; where her funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY on Friday Sept. 6, 2013. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Dundee Fire Company Emergency Squad, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837. Julia was born November 20, 1927 in Rathbone, NY, the daughter of the late Melvin L. and Dorothy I. Smith Hyer. She married the late Boyd J Hilligus Sr. who passed away on January 17, 1969 leaving her with 8 young children. She worked many different jobs throughout the years to support her family, from various factories in the area, and as a waitress and co-owner of the former "Chet & Boyd's Restaurant", in Bath along with her husband, and Chet and Jean Snell, in the 1960's. Her favorite occupation was as a Licensed Caregiver and Proprietor of her Hilligus Family Care Home, in Dresden, NY; which she ran until her retirement in the early 1990's. Mrs. Hilligus was a devote Catholic, having been a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bath, and it's Rosary & Alter Society; had attended the former St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Dundee, St. Michael's in Penn Yan, and lately never missed a broadcast from St. Mary's of the Lake in Watkins Glen. She was a member of the Wayne American Legion Ladies Aux.; and a former member of the Penn Yan Ladies of the Moose, and the Bath VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She is loved and will be dearly missed by 6 daughters Dorothy I. (Bill Goundry) Green, Cleo H. (Paul) Pollack Sr., Teena L. (Mike) Pollack Sr., Penelope F. Jamison, Mary Etta Rose Hilligus, and Roxan E. (Buddy) Meier Sr. all of Dundee; 3 sons Boyd J Hilligus Jr. of Dansville, NY, Elwood T. (Paula) Hilligus Sr. of Dundee, and Gary (Amy) Farnsworth of Cleveland, OH; 36 grandchildren; 91 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; a sister Averil Zyla of Bath; and countless nieces and nephews; and her very best friend "Tootsie". Besides her parents, and husband, she was pre-deceased by 2 sons, Michael E. Hilligus in 1976; William C. Baker in 1991; 2 grandsons, 1 great grandson, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters.
