Obituary of Betty J. Tormey

Betty J. Tormey Lamoka Lake: Betty J. Tormey, age 90, of East Lamoka Lake, died Friday November 1, 2013 at the Sunset House in Dundee, NY. Honoring her wishes there will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday (Nov. 17) at the Weston Presbyterian Church, 510 County Rte 23, Dundee with Pastor Richard Schied officiating. Inurnment will be in Tyrone Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Weston Presbyterian Church, 510 County Rte 23, Dundee, 14837, the Tyrone Fire Department, P.O. Box 69, Tyrone, 14887, or the Dundee Library, 32 Water St., Dundee, 14837. Betty was born July 27, 1923 in town of Tyrone, the only child of the late Lester and Nellie Best Green. She graduated from Dundee Central School class of 1941. She worked for Ingersol-Rand during World War II; on Aug. 17, 1946 in Hammondsport, NY she married the late John Benjamin "Ben" Tormey; who passed away on Oct. 8, 1983. Mrs. Tormey was a life long member and former Elder of Weston Presbyterian Church; a former member of the Tyrone Chapter # 612 Order of The Eastern Star; and had served on the Tyrone Election Board, and Tyrone Union Cemetery Board. In her spare time she was an avid reader, loved to watch the birds and thoroughly enjoyed the bus trips she went on with her friends, in previous years. She is loved and will be missed by her son Ronald B. (Patricia) Tormey of Lamoka Lake; her daughter Pamela K. (Steven G.) Fleet of Dundee; 5 grandchildren Jenna, Tommi Lynn, and Nathan (Abby) Tormey, Brian, and Douglas (Amy) Fleet; 7 great granddaughters Adelaide, and Alayna Tormey, Anna, Emma, Eva, Ellie, and Renee Fleet; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, very dear caregivers and staff of Sunset House; and countless friends.
