Obituary of Mary Ellen Simonsen

Mary Ellen Simonsen Penn Yan: Mary Ellen Simonsen, age 85, of Penn Yan, NY passed away with her family at her side on Tuesday July 21, 2015 at Geneva General Hospital, in Geneva, N.Y. Honoring her wishes there are no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday August 1, 2015 at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee with Craig Wetherby, and Rev. John Busch officiating. Entombment will be in City Hill Cemetery in Penn Yan, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Yates County Humane Society 1216 Route 14A, Penn Yan, NY 14527; or to the charity of the donor's choice. Mary was born June 11, 1930 in Penn Yan, NY, the daughter of the late Edward F. and Ada Brink Harrison. She grew up in Himrod and attended Dundee Central School. On March 7, 1948 in Wayne, NY she married Chester R. Simonsen. They owned and operated a dairy and cash crop farm in Potter where they lived many years before moving to Penn Yan. Mary attended Second Milo Baptist Church, and was a former member of the Penn Yan Ladies of the Moose, Lodge #2030. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren, and loved flowers and working in her flower beds. She will be missed by her husband of 67 years "Chet" R. Simonsen at home; 2 sons Richard H. (Dorothy) Simonsen of Campbell, NY, Thomas E. (Diane) Simonsen of Dundee; 2 daughters Charlene M. (Jay) Cook of Denver, CO, Lisa A. (Bruce) Henderson of Penn Yan; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; a brother Roland R. "Ron" Harrison of Penn Yan; and several nieces and nephews.
