Obituary of Gerald L. Orsley

Gerald L. Orsley Himrod: Gerald L. Orsley, age 72, of Himrod, NY passed away Wednesday August 19, 2015 in the comfort of his home. Honoring his wishes there will be no prior calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held at 12:00 noon Friday September 25, at the Lakeside Country Club 145 Route 54 East Lake Rd. Penn Yan, NY 14527. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ontario-Yates County Hospice Assoc. 756 Pre-Emption Rd., Geneva, NY 14456 Gerald was born March 2, 1943 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late .Gerald R. and Jacqueline Farnsworth Orsley. He graduated in 1961 from Johnson City High School where he played basketball, football, and golf. He went on to receive his BA in History and his Masters degree in Counseling from Alfred University where he was on both the football and the golf teams. On June 26, 1965 in Bath, NY he married the former Loretta Bocek. A Social Studies teacher in Scio, NY for several years early in his career, he also served as an assistant football coach at Alfred University. He retired as Director of Guidance at Goshen High School in1997 and was a past President of the Orange County Counselors Association. Mr. Orsley was a member of the Orange County Golf Club, the Lakeside Country Club and helped with Food for the Needy in Penn Yan. He loved reading, fishing, discussing politics and spending winters in St. Augustine Beach Florida. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Loretta "Lori" Orsley at home; a son Sean Orsley of Niskayuna, NY, a sister Karen (Joe) Phillips of Boynton Beach, FL. a sister in law Jacqueline Klawonn of Palm Beach, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother Jack Orsley in 2005. Arrangements are entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.
