Donald A. Smith Tyrone: Donald A. Smith, age 85 of the town of Tyrone, NY; passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born October 25, 1930 in Coopers Plains, the son of the late Warden A. and Mary Gertrude (Ormsby) Smith. He graduated from Painted Post High School in 1950. He married the former Carol M. Stevens on February 25, 1956 in Painted Post. Mr. Smith was a Lab Technician for Corning Glass Works for 38 years. He was a member of the Wayne Baptist Church and a member of the Lamoka Masonic Lodge # 463 F&AM in Tyrone, NY. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a pitcher for the Painted Post Indians baseball team, he also played softball, and was a former N.Y. State Champion Horseshoe player; and participated in numerous other sports in his younger years. His favorite activity however was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is loved and will be missed by his beloved wife of 60 years, Carol; a son, Shawn A. (Cheryl) Smith of Campbell; 2 daughters, Heidi Smith of Horseheads, and Holly Somers of Ithaca; 2 sisters, Beverly E. (Fred) Drumm of Campbell, and Donna J. (Clifford) Ellison of Savona; a brother, Richard O. (Rhea) Smith of Tyrone; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Sylvia A. Jewell of Bedford, Indiana. Honoring his request there will be no formal services; but prayers for the family will be greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wayne Baptist Church, Route 230, Wayne, NY 14893 or to CareFirst 3805 Meads Creek Road Painted Post 14870.
