George R. Schenck Dundee/Weston: George R. Schenck, age 83, of Dundee, NY passed away on Friday April 1, 2016 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Friends are invited to calling hours from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Apr. 13) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee; where a memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with his cousin Mike Trenchard officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1400 Winton Road North, Rochester, NY 14609-5896. George was born October 24, 1932 in Burdett, NY, one of 3 sons of the late Richard Donald and Dorothy A. Trenchard Schenck. He served in the U.S. Army from 1949-1952 stationed in Korea from 1950-51, earning a Korean Service Medal with 7 Bronze Service Stars, & the United Nations Service Medal. On Feb. 6, 1953 in Dundee, New York he married the former Norma Jean Washburn. He had a broad variety of occupations during his life, from being a milk hauler, mail courier, truck driver for Penn Yan Boats. But his true expertise was as a heavy equipment operator for the NYS Highway Department, followed by Hill Construction, and finally for the town of Tyrone Highway Dept. where he retired from in 1993. Mr. Schenck was a member of the Dundee VFW, and the Dundee United Methodist Church, and was currently attending the Weston Presbyterian Church. George's passion in life was car racing. He started racing stock cars in 1955 at the Dundee Track. He raced Late Model, and Modified at several tracks until 1979. After car racing his love became motorcycles, 4 wheelers, and dune buggies. He started a Dune Buggy Club which participated in area parades. He passed his love of racing onto his daughters and family members; years after he quit racing he remained active at the race track helping grade and prepare the track surface for "Friday Night Races", or just giving advice from his years of experience. He also enjoyed camping, NASCAR races, playing guitar, banjo, and singing with his close friends and neighbors; or just "tinkering" in the garage. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 years Norma J. Schenck at home; 3 daughters Donna (David) Wilbur of Watkins Glen, Cheryl Schenck of Geneva, Lori R. (Bill) Edmister of Weston; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister in law Edna Schenck of Dundee; several nieces, nephews, cousins, step grandchildren, in laws, and countless friends.
