Dundee: Doris H. Galek, age 95, of Dundee, NY died Sunday August 20, 2017 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility, Montour Falls, NY.
Honoring her wishes there will be no prior calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday (Aug. 24) in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee with Rev. Judy Peppard officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association, Rochester Chapter, 435 East Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620.
Doris was born July 16, 1922 in Tyrone, NY, the daughter of the late Guy M. and Bessie M. {Clark} Yost. Doris attended the one room school house in Tyrone before attending Watkins Glen High School. On Nov. 22, 1939 in the Tyrone Methodist church she married the late Louis Galek. They moved to the farm on Six Corners Rd. and farmed until Louis passed away on Jan. 22, 1996. She moved to St. Marks Terrace in Dundee and for the last year has been at Seneca View hoping to return.
She is survived by one daughter Elizabeth "Betty" (Arnold) Thompson of Dundee, a son in law Tomas Lathrop, sister Helen D. (Floyd) Wicker of Dundee, one brother Harry F. Yost of Corning, 2 grandchildren Cheryl L. (Richard J.) Richtmyer II of Watkins Glen, Timothy A. (Helen) Thompson of Dundee; 3 great grandchildren Tiffany Dillon of Dundee, R.J. (Ashley Evans) Richtmyer III of Watkins Glen, Brandon Thompson of Dundee; 5 great great grandchildren Elizabeth & Joseph Dillon, Timothy & twins Ryan and Bryan Thompson all of Dundee; 1 step great great great grandson Markell; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter Teresa J. Wodarski on January 31, 2010.
