Obituary of Margaret T. Herrick

Margaret T. ''Peggy'' Herrick Dundee: Margaret T. ''Peggy'' Herrick, age 77, of Dundee, NY passed away Monday October 8, 2018 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY. Friends are invited to calling hours from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday (Oct. 11) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee. A private graveside service will be held in Sparrow Cemetery, , Altay. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Altay Old Home Days Assoc. c/o Jason Doan 4256 State Rte. 226, Dundee, NY 14837 Margaret was born December 1, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late Charles James Robertson and Matti A. Glattli Robertson. Her father passed away in 1942 when "Peggy" was only 2 years old. Her mother then married the late Norman Foster who raised all of her children as her own. She graduated from Dundee Central School in 1958, from Arnot – Ogden School of Nursing in 1961; and later in life she returned to school attending Corning Community College for a year studying Computer Programming. A lifelong area resident she was employed as a Register Nurse by Arnot-Ogden Medical Center for many years, before working for 12 years at Taylor Wine Company in Hammondsport. She returned to nursing and retired in 1998. Not one to sit still she opened her home as a Bed and Breakfast for 8 years, and also provided private duty nursing. Mrs. Herrick was a very active member of the community, having been the Founder of the Altay Young Couples Club, Director of Altay Old Home Days Assoc., a member of the Tyrone F.D. Ladies Auxiliary, and served as a Tyrone Election Inspector. She was a member of the Full Gospel Covenant Church in Altay, enjoyed gardening, reading, baking and spending time with family, and supporting her grandchildren in all their endeavors. She is loved and will be missed by 3 daughters Margaret H. "Peggy" (Barry) Tortolon of Dundee, Cynthia M. (Peter) Oughterson of Rock Stream, NY, Lisa M. (George Vindigni) Herrick of Canandaigua, NY, 3 sons William J. Herrick of Tyrone, twin sons Jeffrey A. (Lisa Marie) Herrick of Altay, and Alex R. (Shelly) Herrick of Gulf Breeze, FL; 9 grandchildren; a brother Jim (Judi) Robertson of Altay & Texas; 2 sisters Patricia (Richard) Chilbert of Altay, Barbara Jean (Andrew) Doyle of Rock Stream; sister in laws Virginia Herrick of Elmira, Patricia Robertson of Altay, Peg Robertson of Winston Salem, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her father, mother and stepfather, she was predeceased by 2 brothers Rob Robertson, John Robertson, and the father of her children William J. "Bill" Herrick.
