Lay Pastor Evelyn E. Emerson Penn Yan: Evelyn E. Emerson, age 89, of Penn Yan, NY passed away peacefully with her daughter at her side on Friday January 17, 2020 at the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home, Penn Yan, N.Y. The family will receive friends 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 25) at the Altay Baptist Church, 4289 Six Corners Rd., Dundee; where her memorial service with reception following will be begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Donald Lawrence and Floyd Wicker Jr. officiating. Burial will be private in Italy Hill Cemetery, Italy, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Altay Baptist Church, 4289 Six Corners Rd., Dundee, NY 14837; or the charity of the donor's choice. Evelyn was born August 23, 1930 in Penn Yan, NY, the only child of Oliver B. and Leona F. {DeBolt} Earley. She graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1948. On July 11, 1950 in Penn Yan, she married the late Lay Pastor Lloyd E. Emerson who passed away on Aug. 9, 2001. After raising her family she continued her education receiving her Bachelor's degree in 1988, from Keuka College, where she wrote children's stories and did pottery while attending. A very active community minded woman, she worked at the Penn Yan Public Library from 1971 – 1991 where she conducted countless preschool story hours; helped at St. Michael's school library for 9 years, was Chairman of the Board at Clinton Crest and the Manor Nursing Home for 20 years; was the Altay Baptist Pastor starting in 2001; leading various Bible Studies at Clinton Crest and St. Marks Terrace. Mrs. Emerson was a member of the Altay Baptist Church; joined Penn Yan Rotary in 2002, served as President from 2008-09, was named a Paul Harris Fellow; Co-sponsored Rotaract from 2008-2015, and helped with the backpack program. In her spare-time she enjoyed belonging to a Home Demonstration group doing crafts and cooking projects; she knitted countless hats and mittens for the Yates County Christmas over the years; liked owls, and enjoyed paint by number, having painted several large ones. She will be dearly missed by her daughter Diane E. DeLooza of Penn Yan, NY; daughter-in-law Deborah Emerson of Virginia Beach , VA; 5 grandchildren Tim(Amie) DeLooza, Tom (Lindsay) DeLooza, Bethany (Jim) Travis, Brent (Kim) Emerson, and Brittney Emerson; along with 4 great grandchildren. Besides her parents, and husband, she was pre-deceased by 2 sons, Richard L. Emerson in 1975 and Daniel T. Emerson in 2016. Arrangements entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.
