Obituary of William J. Armstrong

William J. Armstrong Dundee: William J. "Bill" Armstrong, age 93, of Dundee, NY passed away Friday May 8, 2020 in the comfort of his home. Honoring his wishes there were no calling hours. A Celebration of His Life will be held at the Newton, New Jersey, VFW from 12:00 noon - 4:00 pm Saturday June 5, 2021; with CDC guidelines being observed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Newton VFW Post 5360, 85 Mill St. Newton, NJ 07860 or the Masons Harmony Lodge #8 F&AM 519 US-206 Newton, NJ 07860. William was born June 16, 1926 in Newton, NJ, son of the late John M. and Nettie Nora {Kays} Armstrong. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46. On June 21, 1947 in Andover, NJ he married the former Mary Rose Fritts who passed away on Nov. 16, 2018. A farmer as a young man, after the service he worked for the Sussex, County NJ Highway Dept, before being employed by N.J. Fish & Game Commission, State of N.J. Fredon, NJ.; where he retired from in 1988. Mr. Armstrong was a member of the Harmony Lodge #8 F&AM, the Newton VFW Post 5360, the Himrod Conservation Club, and was a former member of the Newton Steamer Co. #1. He loved hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and enjoyed gambling, and bowling. He is loved and will be missed by 4 sons, Ted W. Armstrong of Stroudsburg, PA, Thomas J. (Sue) Armstrong, Kenneth W. (Cheryl) Armstrong, and Allan T. (Laurie) Armstrong all of Newton, NJ; 2 daughters Jacqueline L. (Wayne) Cosh of Dundee, NY, and Jill K. (Steve) Metzgar also of Newton, NJ; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 3great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife he was pre-deceased by 3 brothers, Robert, Vince, and Roy Armstrong; and 2 sisters Mildred Snover, and Elizabeth Meyers.
