Obituary of Allen H. Gutchess

Allen H. Gutchess Penn Yan: Allen H. Gutchess, age 80, of Penn Yan, NY died Saturday August 8, 2020 at The Homestead, in Penn Yan, N.Y. Honoring his wishes there are no calling hours or service planned. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Barrington Rifle Club, for the Dundee Central School Trap Shooting Program c/o Calvin Crosby 2021 Hobson Rd. Penn Yan, NY 14527. Allen was born June 11, 1940 in Syracuse, NY, son of the late Edward and Bernice {McLean} Gutchess. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. A Union Carpenter all of his life, having worked for Joe Visconti of Syracuse, retiring in 2007. On Dec. 31, 1984 in Chittenango, NY he married the former Anne C. {Shults} Hafleigh. They have lived locally since 2015, previously of Bridgeport, NY. Mr. Gutchess was a member of Carpenter's Union, the Dundee Masonic Lodge 123 F&AM, Barrington Rifle Club, Seneca Co. Gun Club, and is Life Member of the South Shore, Bridgeport, and Camillius, and Northern Pine Gun Clubs. An avid fisherman, hunter, and Trap Shooter, he was the N.Y. State Singles Trap Champion in 1981 having scored 200/200 Targets. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Anne C. Gutchess at home; her 4 children that he loved as his own, Patsy (Ron) Ballard of Dundee, NY, Susan (Mike) Mehlenbacher of TX, Scott (Deb) Hafleigh of Penn Yan, Steve Hafleigh also of TX; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; siblings Jack, Fred, and Sue; and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
