Obituary of Edward W. LaRue

Edward W. "Lash" LaRue Wayne/Hammondsport: Edward W. "Lash" LaRue, age 98, of the Town of Wayne, NY passed away on Wednesday December 30, 2020 in the comfort of his home, with family at his side. Due to Covid restrictions all services will be private for family only at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, on Saturday Jan. 2, 2021 with Pastor Lee Capodagli officiating. Burial will follow in Tyrone Union Cemetery, Tyrone, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Tyrone United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1, Tyrone, NY 14887; or Care First (Hospice) 3805 Mead Creek Rd. Painted Post, NY 14870. Edward was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Hammonton, NJ, the son of John W. and Maude R. {Cooley} LaRue I. He graduated from John Harris High School, Harrisburg, PA in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, from 1944-1946, and in the Naval Reserves for an additional 8 years. He retired from Amtrak of Philadelphia, PA as an Electrical Sub Station Engineer after 42 years in 1982. On June 1, 1984 in Downingtown, PA he married the former Nancy C. Taggert; and they have lived locally since 1986. "Lash" as he was fondly known by many, was a member of the Tyrone United Methodist Church; Wine Country Toastmasters of Bath, NY; the Steuben County Honey Bee Assoc.; taught AARP Driver Safety Program since 2005, and volunteered for the Office of the Ageing since 1986. He enjoyed Bee Keeping, gardening, and genealogy. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife Nancy C. LaRue at home; a son William E. (Ruthann) LaRue of Troy, MI; a daughter Brenda L. (Duane) Moss of Hammondsport; a step son he loved as his own Duane E. (Chong Ok) Brosky of Wilmington, DE; a sister Nancy J. (Clyde) Wolf of Vestal, NY; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Susanna M. Bard-LaRue in 1983; a son John W. LaRue III in 1993; 2 sisters Ellen L. Loobey in 1989, Elizabeth Thurston in 2000; and a brother John W. LaRue in 2007.
