Charles L. Gaylor Dundee: Charles Lynn Gaylor, age 78, of Wayne, NY died Tuesday August 30, 2022 at Clifton Springs Hospital, Clifton Springs, N.Y.. Friends are invited to calling hours will be from 12:00 noon -1:00 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 3) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee; where a Fireman's service will be held at 1:00 p.m.; followed by his funeral service with Pastor Lee Capodagli officiating. Inurnment in Wayne Village Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne Fire Dept. or Ambulance Corp. P.O. Box 91, Wayne, NY 14893. Charles was born Dec. 28, 1943 in Bath, NY, son of the late Earl Martin and Marion I. (O'Neil) Gaylor. On March 19, 1966 in the Bluff Point United Methodist Church he married the former Sandra K. Gilbert. A lifelong local resident, Charles started his 44 year career at Seneca Foods in Dundee back in 1962, driving truck and retiring as the warehouse foreman, when the Dundee plant closed down. After his retirement, he enjoyed being a driver for the A.R.C. of Yates County, and the Yates County Office of the Aging, ultimately retiring when Covid-19 shut things down. Mr. Gaylor was a very active 61 year and Life Member of the Wayne Fire Dept., having served as Chief from 1972-74, Treasure for 33 years, and was a former Fire Commissioner. He was a member of the Lamoka Masonic Lodge 463 F&AM, in Tyrone, NY. An avid motorsports enthusiast, he loved anything that was drivable and the faster the better. He was a former Dirt Track Racer in Dundee and Chemung County; he loved to race on the frozen lakes, both in cars and on snowmobiles. An avid NASCAR fan all his life he enjoyed collecting memorabilia, and attending races, especially enjoyed his time spent working on the Fire and Safety Crew at Watkins Glen International Race Track. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years Sandra K. Gaylor at home; 2 daughters Michelle L. (Darren) Raybourne of Hampton, VA, and Jennifer L. Gaylor of Savona, NY; 2 grandchildren Peyton R. Raybourne and Olyve M. Gaylor; 2 sisters Betty Ann Kinney of Hall, NY, and Avis J. Litteer of Penn Yan, NY; along with countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by 2 brothers, Robert and George Gaylor; and 3 sisters, Shirley Haight-Day, Lois Ann Belknap-Santos, and Barbara J. Bailey; and several in-laws.
