Earl J. Lauer Dundee/Penn Yan: Earl J. Lauer, age 91, passed away Friday, December 30, 2022, at Keuka Comfort Care Home in Penn Yan. Calling hours will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday Jan. 6, 2023 at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, NY. Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday Jan. 7, 2023 at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church, 905 North Decatur Street, Watkins Glen, NY with Father Jeff Tunnicliff officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Reading, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Keuka Comfort Care Home, P.O. Box 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva, NY 14456 or Penn Yan Ambulance, 205 North Ave., Penn Yan, NY 14527. Earl was born May 21, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Arthur & Marie (Smith) Lauer. He graduated from Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland, Class of 1949. He served in The United States Navy from 1950-1954 as a Photographer PH3. On April 23, 1960 in East Cleveland, OH he married the former Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Zowasky, who passed away on Jan. 5, 2018. Earl moved his family from Ohio to Dundee in 1972 and worked at Morton Salt Mine in Himrod, NY, until its closure. He was a wedding photographer in the Dundee area for approximately 336 weddings. He also served as The Town of Starkey Assessor until his retirement. He served on The Dundee Central School Board of Education for many years. He also spent many years bowling and golfing in leagues with friends. He loved to ride his golf cart around Log Cabin Road stopping to chat with neighbors and watching the ospreys and eagles. He also loved working on puzzles, spending time with his Tuesday morning coffee group, and having breakfast on Sunday mornings with his church friends. Earl is survived by his children Robert Lauer of Las Vegas, NV, Ann (Tom) Nolan with whom he made his home; and Margaret Lauer of Montour Falls, NY, granddaughter Katie (Ryan) Marko and great granddaughters Mirabelle and Maelyn of Manchester, NY, sister- in- laws Joan Lauer of University Heights, OH, Mary Jane Poley of Chardon, OH, and June Zowasky of Mentor on the Lake, OH.; also many nieces, nephews, family and friends that he cherished spending time with, especially Newell and Joanne Clancey. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by, brothers Arthur (Carroll), Charles, Donald (Carol), sister in law Ruth (Charles) Hassing, brother in laws Carl Zowasky and Don Poley. The family would like to thank the Nolan, Niewiadomski, Multer and Travis families for everything you have done for us over the years, he truly thought of you all as his family. We also would like to thank everyone at Keuka Comfort Care Hospice House, Ontario-Yates County Hospice, Penn Yan Ambulance, Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, Dr. Ignaczak and staff at the Lipson Cancer Center in Clifton Springs, NY, Dr. Lisa Walk-Reinard and staff at Rochester Regional Health in Penn Yan for all your care and compassion during this difficult time.
