Robert Kurt 'Bob' Ahnert Himrod: Robert Kurt 'Bob' Ahnert, age 88, of Himrod, NY passed away peacefully, Wednesday February 1, 2023 in the comfort of his dream home. Honoring his wishes there are no prior calling hours. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Bob's Life from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 7), at the Himrod Fire House 3530 Himrod Rd. in Himrod. A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held in Grove Mount Cemetery, Himrod, with Chaplain Brad Zinnecker officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Himrod Fire Department, 3530 Himrod Rd., Himrod, NY 14842-9608; Ontario-Yates County Hospice Assoc., 756 Pre-Emption Rd., Geneva, NY 14456; or Chubb Hollow School c/o Matthew Hoover 2895 Flynn Rd. Himrod NY 14842. Robert was born January 24, 1935 in Rockville, CT, the son of the late Max Kurt and Mae Jane (Lutton) Ahnert. He served in the Air Police Squadron of the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. After his Honorable Discharge he continues in Law Enforcement first serving on the City of Rockville Police force, before taking a position with the Town of Vernon, CT Police Dept. retiring after 39 ½ years in 1989. He also worked for Gottier Fuel in Vernon for many years, and also Southern Auto Auction. Mr. Ahnert was always a very active member of his community; his former involvements include Advisor of Police Explorers Post 800 Vernon, CT, chartered by the Boy Scouts Long River Council; Director of the Long River Council Boy Scout Police Academy from 1978-79. He was a life Member of the Connecticut Police Assoc.; Recipient of the Liberty Bell Award from the Tolland County Bar Assoc. He was a former fireman and Past Captain of the Tolland, CT Fire Dept.; Brother Bob was raised in Lodge #69 F&AM in Ellington, CT, transferring to the Dundee Masonic Lodge # 123 F&AM, as well as being a member of the Vernon American Legion Post #14, and the Penn Yan Johnson Costello Post # 355. In his later years, he enjoyed farming, Electric Model Trains, Auctions, and driving for his countless Mennonite friends. On Jan. 1, 2003 in Vernon, CT he married the former Sandra A. McCabe, and in 2004 they moved to the hills overlooking Seneca Lake. He will be dearly missed by his wife 'Sandy', having just celebrated their 20th anniversary. He is also survived by his daughter Sandra K. Sutter of Manchester, CT, a son Douglas K. (Betsy) Ahnert of Galivants Ferry, SC, a step son Eric T. (Tara) Bjorkland of Colchester, CT; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and his loyal side kick 'Swinger'.. Arrangements entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.
