Carlton Frank ''Carl'' Gernold Dundee: Carlton Frank ''Carl'' Gernold, age 88, of Dundee, NY passed away on Monday April 10, 2023 at the Ontario Center For Rehabilitation & Nursing, in the Town of Hopewell, NY. There are no prior calling hours. A private service with Military Honors will be held in Bath National Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may consider the Dundee, V.F.W. Goodrich-Smith Post #8649, 125 Seneca St. Ext., Dundee, NY 14837. Carl was born October 12, 1934 in Buffalo, NY, one of 6 siblings of the late Carl J. and Anna E. (Isler) Gernold. After graduating from High School, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp graduating 7th in the class of Navigational School. He made Staff Sergeant in 2 years, and served as Commanding Officer at Eden Air Base. After his discharge, he went to Alfred State University; and continued on to Cornell University, receiving a Bachelor Degree in Agriculture. In 1968 Carl moved his family to Dundee and proudly purchased one of the largest Dairy farms in the area, 1000 acres, and named it Tri-Glen Farms. He was a member of the Dundee V.F.W. Goodrich-Smith Post #8649, the Dundee American Legion Bradley-Jessop Post #660, the Loyal Order of The Moose Lodge #426, in Montour Falls, NY and the former Dundee Sportsman's Club. Carl was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He is listed in the Boone & Crocket Big Game Record Book for setting a new world record for the largest Caribou killed in a remote area in Alaska; and proudly displayed it on his wall. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, solved all the world's problems while mowing; he liked a challenge, planned and built his own home; always rooted for the underdog; hated the Yankees (sorry Tom); golfing, baseball basketball & football; played cards back in the day with the good ole boys and hunting with his lifelong friends, Kenny R., Iggy and Sam K.; he loved Bing Crosby's "You Take the High Road"; and Loved his children & grandchildren more than he showed – but hated dusting. He is loved and will be forever missed by his 'only' son Jeffery D. Gernold; 4 daughters, Christina A. DeMarco, Cheryl (Scott) Ovenshire, Suzie M. (Thomas) Pratt Jr., and Lisa (Jared Bailey) Wood; 8 grandchildren, Shane &Aaron Gernold, Mitchell (Gina) DeMarco, Adam Cadwell, Amanda (Brett) Benedetto, Samantha (Jeremy Peloquin) Pratt, Thomas (Abby Welker) Pratt III, and Peyton Comfort; 5 great grandchildren, Amelia DeMarco, Addison &Jackson Benedetto, Hayden & Harlow Peloquin; the mother of his children, Millie Gernold and Irene Shoemaker; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Beside his parents, he was predeceased by 4 brothers and 1 sister. Arrangements are entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.
