Nancy Lois Baker Brooks Nancy Lois Baker Brooks, age 92, of Altay, passed away at the Penn Yan Manor on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. An only child, Nancy was born on February 13, 1931 in Penn Yan to Charles and Marjorie Littell Baker. She graduated in the Class of 1948 at Dundee Central School, graduated from Green Mountain Junior College in Vermont in 1950 and from Cornell University with a degree in Home Economics in 1952. On October 18, 1952 she married Norman L. Brooks who predeceased her on May 21, 2000. Nancy was an active member of the Tyrone Methodist Church. She was best known for her talents of sewing, furniture refinishing and chair caning. She had a love for antiques and covered bridges. Nancy was a 4-H volunteer for many years in Schuyler County and was a long-time 4-H judge at fairs, dress revues and public presentations. She also served as a Schuyler County 4-H Program Assistant. Nancy retired in 1995, after working for 23 years as an instructor and coordinator of a Family Living And Self-Help program at Steuben-Allegany County BOCES. She was proud to have lived her entire life in Altay except for the past 4 years when she was a resident of Clinton Crest and at the Penn Yan Manor for the past 2 weeks. She loved the rural life of Altay where she had grown up with sheep and cows, baling hay and enjoying her family cottage on nearby Lamoka Lake for over 50 years. She is survived by her children: Jennifer (Donald "Skip") Jensen of Penn Yan, Kirk (Carolyn "Cookie") Brooks of Penn Yan and Lawrence (Debra) Brooks of Altay; her grandchildren: Natalie Jensen of Penn Yan, Eileen Jensen of Branchport, Betsy Jensen of Warnerville, Colby (Melissa) Petersen of Penn Yan, Ethan (Shana Tubbs) Brooks of Altay and Casey (Cody Perry) Brooks of Rock Stream.
