Obituary of Anita F. McGee

Anita F. McGee Penn Yan: Anita F. McGee, age 85, of Penn Yan, formerly of Dundee, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 17, 2023 at the Keuka Comfort Care Home, in Penn Yan. Honoring her wishes there are no prior calling hours, or funeral service. Burial will be private in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, N.Y. Anita was born Nov. 20, 1937 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late William A. and Lena E. Sager Swyers Sr. She graduated from Alden Central High School; Alden NY in 1955. She went on to graduate from State University College at Potsdam in 1959 with a Bachelor Degree in Education. Anita became an Elementary School Teacher and taught for 11 years in Akron Central School and the City School District of Rochester until 1971; having spent six months travelling in Europe from 1961-1962. On April 17, 1971 in Honeoye Falls, NY she married the late Howard A. McGee, who passed away on October 7, 1995. They lived locally since 1973, previously of Irondequoit, NY. Mrs. McGee continued working as a substitute teacher until her retirement in 1992. An active member of the former St. Andrews Catholic Church, who played the organ at many local Church's; she was a member of the former Woman's Study Club of the Dundee Library, and the former Orpheus Club of Dundee. She is loved and will be dearly missed by her loving son Eoghan T. (Alison) McGee of Savannah, NY; a daughter in law Patricia McGee of Flourisant, MO, her sister Dr. Mila (Ron Newhouse) Aroskar, and Dr. Elsa Swyers both of Tucson, AZ; a brother William A. (Denise) Swyers Jr. of Brunswick, Maine; 2 "Spiritual Sisters" Bunny Zemel of Rochester, and Anne Eccles of Tucson, AZ; 5 grandchildren Matthew McGee, Jennifer Gunn, Elizabeth McGee, Rebekah Walton, and Alexandra McGee; 6 great grandchildren Tyler S., Erin Nicole, and Olivia Gunn, Thomas M. McGee, Christina and Gianlorenzo Walton; along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, and her husband, she was predeceased by a son Michael McGee in 2010.
