Obituary of Ronald J. Halstead

Ronald J. Halstead Dundee: Ronald J. Halstead, age 90, of Dundee, formerly of Liverpool, NY passed away on Thursday October 24, 2024 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, in Penn Yan, NY. There are no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday Nov. 3, 2024 at the Dundee United Methodist Church, 35 Water Street, Dundee, with Rev. Beckie Laumeier officiating. Memorial contributions may be in his name made to the Dundee Fire Company, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837. Ronald was born January 26, 1934 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Arthur S. and Marian E. (Wise) Halstead. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He earned his BA in engineering from Cornell University. On Feb. 20, 1971 in Elmira Heights, NY he married the former Norma R. Smith. Ron was an Engineer in Research and Development of the Sonar Division of General Electric, in Liverpool, NY until his retirement. Ron and his wife have lived in Dundee for 5 years, previously of Liverpool, NY and Vero Beach Fl. Mr. Halstead loved playing golf, cycling, cross country skiing, and camping. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma R. Halstead; daughter Nancy (Furman) Kendall; granddaughter Christine (Quinn) Sutherland; and grandson Mark (Angela) Kendall all of Dundee; 4 great grandchildren Erika (Josh) Kirkendall of Enterprise, AL, Megan Sutherland of Buffalo, NY, Addie Kendall and Alex Kendall both of Dundee; a brother Allyn L. (Yvonne) Halstead of PA; 2 sisters Beverly Davis of MA, and Joan McCormick of S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.
