Richard was born Dec. 5, 1926 in Penn Yan, N.Y., the son of the late Howard E. and Olive C. Morley Webster. He graduated from Dundee Central School as the President of the Class of 1945. On July 5, 1945 in Savona, NY he married the former Arlene O. Crans, who passed away on Nov. 2, 2005. He entered the U. S. Army the day after his wedding and served until Sept. 1949. A farmer growing up, after his discharge from the Army he became the owner of the Mobil Station at the Dundee four corners. After selling the station, he took a position on the docks at Penn Yan Express; after losing his fingers in a farm accident, he became a Dispatcher, retiring after over 30 years in 1984. "Dick" as he was known by most, could not stop working, so he continued working as a sheep farmer, growing grapes, and as a meat cutter at Tears Meat Market in Penn Yan, retiring permanently in 2004. Mr. Webster was a member of Dundee American Legion Bradley-Jessop Post #660, attended the Dundee Baptist Church when he was younger, enjoyed gardening, and most of all, loved his family.
He will be dearly missed by 3 sons Dean Webster of Second Milo, Daniel (Beth) Webster of Phelps, Thomas (Lora) Webster of Latham, NY; 3 daughters Sharon (Eddy Powell) Miller, Dianne (Judd) Dean, and Maureen (Timothy) Clancey all of Dundee; 21 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Donald (Elinor) Webster of Dundee, Robert (Rose) Webster of Penn Yan; 2 sisters Nancy Fullagar of Second Milo, and Carol (Charles) Leach of Penn Yan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Besides his wife, he was pre-deceased by a granddaughter Colleen Huey in 1998; a son John H. Webster in 2008, and 2 brothers Kenneth R. Webster also in 2005, and Jack E. Webster in 2009.
