Obituary of Richard A. Ryan

Richard A. ''Dick'' Ryan Dundee: Richard A. ''Dick'' Ryan, age 93, of Dundee, NY passed away Thursday November 15, 2018 at Keuka Comfort Care Home, in Penn Yan, NY. Richard was born February 27, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Clarence Cargill and Helen Marie {McClure} Ryan. During WW II he served as an infantryman in Bob Dole's platoon in the U.S. Army, 10th Mountain Division in Italy. In April 1945 Ryan saw extensive action pushing the Germans out of the Po Valley in northern Italy. On June 14, 1947 in Newton, Mass. he married the former Janice Bail; who passed away after 68 years of marriage on Oct. 13, 2015. Having earned his PhD in Biology from Cornell University; Dr. Ryan was a Professor of Biology for 35 years at Hobart & William Smith Colleges, in Geneva, NY until his retirement in 1987. While there he taught ornithology, botany and comparative anatomy. His love of wildlife endured until his death. He is survived a daughter Barbara Ryan of Ithaca, NY; two sons, Jonathan P. (Ann Sill) Ryan of Venice Center, NY, Stephen C. (Mary Fisher) Ryan of Ithaca, five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother Douglas Ryan of Old Saybrook, CT; a sister Susan Robertson of Kempton, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
